Understanding Tirzepatide

Know the treatment.
Ask better questions.

Tirzepatide acts on GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Approved formulations have specific diabetes or weight-management indications; the compounded product shown here is not FDA-approved.

How it works

Its dual receptor activity influences appetite and blood sugar regulation. Medical review and supportive lifestyle changes are important parts of treatment.

Safety & suitability

Digestive side effects are common. Serious risks and contraindications require review, including pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, and certain thyroid cancer histories. It can affect oral contraceptive effectiveness when starting or increasing doses.

  • What is the exact formulation, and which approved alternatives should I consider?
  • What side effects, interactions, and follow-up should we discuss before a decision?

What the evidence says.

Clinical trials

Dual-receptor biology. Measured clinical outcomes.

SURMOUNT-1 studied adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related complication, without diabetes. At 72 weeks, average weight reduction was 15.0%, 19.5%, and 20.9% in the 5, 10, and 15 mg groups, versus 3.1% with placebo.

The visual shows the 15 mg group, not an expected result or a dose recommendation. This study did not evaluate the compounded product pictured here. SURMOUNT-1 and STEP-1 are separate trials and should not be treated as a head-to-head comparison.
